Things are Coming Together

It's been about a week since I've blogged so I thought I'd catch you up on what's been going on. I've recently gone to an orientation for a summer/fall job; I have cleared up a degree problem with a class I'm taking in the fall, and I had a successful interview with a job in Colorado for after graduation. All in all, this has been a better week for me. A lot of uncertainty about the future seems to finally be fading away.

First, the job with Dell seems like it will carry me through the Fall up until graduation. It is basically selling computers to people as they call in. The pay is pretty good. I'll be working about 25 hours a week at a base pay of $10/hr. At $250 a week + bonuses, it ought to pay the bills for the rest of the summer and allow me to pay down some of my credit cards.

As for the job I interviewed for this week. It is based in Denver, CO, and they implement tax software for various companies throughout the country. The phone interview went very well, and they are interested in my overall background. Since I'm not actually graduated yet, they really can't hire me until after my graduation date. For now, I will just keep in touch with the company until my graduation date nears then we will probably set up an in person interview. I would say I got as good a response to my resume as I would be able to get this early on, and I am definitely interested in the job. We'll see how things work out.

The problem with the course I had to clear up was that I had to substitute a 4 hour course for a 3 hour and a 1 hour course. The 1 hour course they substituted CSI 3101 is contained entirely within a course I've already taken CSI 4301. Because of this, my prof recommended that I take a 1 hour reading course which he would conduct. I was trying to get a special topics course CSI 4V96 to substitute for 3101, but it was getting too confusing and becoming a hassle. The solution was that I would stay registered in the 3101 ethics course, but the subject matter would be different. It makes no difference to me, as long as I am able to graduate on time.

So that has been my week in review. Next week I will start training at my Dell job. It will be four weeks of training from 6pm-11pm Monday-Friday. It's a pretty good deal because I get to sleep in and have the day to myself before going to work.
